anyone ever tried to make an airfoil?
Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone made their own air foil? I was thinking of making one out of fiberglass, kind of like the phenolic carb spacers but a fiberglass or epoxy of some kind that wont fall apart when there are 1000 CFM of air going past it. if anyone had tried without success please let me know, I dont want to experiment with this to find out there is a chunk of fiberglass or whatever stuck in a runner or something like that. Just an idea nothing like the power adder ideas of the leaf blowers on the intake but an idea non-the-less.
thanks guys
Jack

Found a guy who can build me a ford 9" (yep sorry guys) for less than 500 then comes all the goodies such as disk brakes so on and so on, will it ever end?? I hope not!!
thanks guys

I made one using epoxy putty. I simply put a bolt (~3/8, i forget exactly) in each side while i formed the putty to fill in the cavity. Then i pulled the bolts out to leave the opening for the IAC and breather.
It's been many months (and ~12k miles including lots of hot summer cruising) and no problems so far.
Before i did it i posted the same question and a few other people had tried it too with no problems. Beats the hell out of paying $26 for an SLP unit (or more if you're really dumb and buy a higher priced brand)

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

you do realize a air foil doesn't do anything until your running 500+ HP. i know, i have one too, but i just thought id share what i'v heard.

Which is exactly why making one for $2 of epoxy putty isn't a bad idea. Paying real coin for one is absurd, i've never heard of anyone getting a real improvement from one. But for damn near free, why not, it's good for a laugh when you show your friends...

Thanks ED, I figured it would work, as far as over 500 HP thats a first for me, Ive heard (but thats the problem we always hear this and no one shows if it works or not) that its almost an instant feel or whatever as far as response or torque who knows, it may be one of those things that everyone BS's about like 1/4 times. But for a couple bucks Ill give it a try and I dont usually take off my air system so I wont have to show it off.

I was looking at my car one day in 1988 and I decided it needed an airfoil to help the air choose a path on its way into the engine, so I made one out of aluminum with a file, sandpaper, and patience. Didnt even know TPIS existed.
As long as the material you use can handle the heat and vibration, it will be fine. I'd personally avoid fiberglass.

89, if you do a search on it you ought to find how to do it, if I remember correctly it takes just a 1/4" bolt and nut a little welding and your set, I need to do mine casue my after market one crapped out after I put a paxton on it.
