TPI brainiacs help me please!!!
TPI brainiacs help me please!!!
Swapped 88TBI to 91TPI. Engine will crank and run with a squirt of starting fluid. Fuel pressure to fuel rail is 45psi. Ran a test light to injector harness and it lights on both terminals. When cranking the light pulses. Why am I not getting gas out of the injectors????? I am out of ideas and have tried all the diagnostics in the helms manual. Maybe the ECM is shot? Any thoughts or ideas would be great! Thanks!! I would be lost without this board and your help!

Ran into this same problem when I did the swap, my unit had been setting around for a while. Removed the injectors had them cleaned, then it started right up.

Are you sure it's your fuel? Starting fluid is much more flammable than fuel. It doesn't take as much voltage to get it to release it's energy in combustion. Make sure you have a healthy spark before you go any further. Also, make sure your MAP is plugged in. It may sound stupid, but I had a similar problem with a burnt MAF. It would run on starting fluid, but not on it's own gas. Good luck.

cudos dyno don. if the fuel rail is pressurized
and you have an injector pulse. the injectors
should pass gas. i have rapped on injectors
to unstick 'em and that saves disassembly.
a screwdriver handle (big wood end) and a
light hammer. tap the injector sides. injectors
that are stored or sitting around or just bad
gas can foul an injector.
other than that, remove plenum and runners
(yuch) and remove rails. and if you are good
lay rail assembly onto manifold shop rag under
each injector, reconnect injector harness, disconnect ignition coil, and spin 'er over.
fuel? no fuel?

Re: TPI brainiacs help me please!!!
Mind if I hitch hike on this post?
I've got almost the exact same problem. Same years with my swap, too. New pump, pulses w/ noid, apparently good spark (but will double check that). Thinking it's plugged injectors from the donor engine sitting awhile.
Curious to know what worked for you.
