Just wondering if the timing could be too retarded to cause a false Knock?
Seems that I see up to 20 degrees of KR sometimes on the scan tool when I'm almost coasting, barely depressing the gas. If I depress the accellerator further. the KR goes away??
I've looked everywhere and don't see anything hitting anywhere and I don't hear any pinging when this happens.
Only thing that looks suspisious on the scan tool is that the timing advance seems low sometimes before the KR begins.

What do the knock counts say?

82 z28 350cid, vortec heads, comp 262h cam, Holley 600cfm carb, 2in twice pipes, MSD ignition, turbo 350 trans, 3.73 posi, manly b&m megashifter

Knock count is only how many times the sensor detected knock, goes up by 1 or 2 every time the KR is not 0.0. The KR can be anywhere from about 5 to 17 degrees usually when this happens, which is enough to be able to hear usually.

ohm the knock sensor to ground. 3500-3900ohm
is good. more or less.. replace. if factory
base is 6.. safely go 10. anything past 10
and it is possibly for over timing. the timing
curve generally had +19 to +45* advance.
depending on MAF or MAP input. most cammed
engines ill rip all but 4* retard. so mapping
the timing curve is critical.

Thanks airdeano, I was about to change the knock sensor, I'll check the ohms on it.
My base timing is currently at 6 degrees.
Not sure what you meant by
