hard starting in morning

oh well I have a 350 TPI in my iroc. Ok in mornings and if its been sitting for more than 5 hours its really really hard to start. I have a new fuel pump, new wires, new plugs. I know my pump comes on for a few seconds and turns off when I turn key. I'm not sure what this is, but it has done this ever since I bought it. Once I get it started its runs great. Also another thing if I dont wanna keep turning and turning the motor over for it to start I can sparay starter fluid in the Throttle body and it cranks right up. So what do you figure my problem is here since she runs great once its started? Thanks

I will be watching this closely. I have had this problem since I put the 350 in place of the 305 and put a 350 chip in the car. I have been told it is because the injectors are still 19#, and as such the start up enrichment is not enough to make it fire, however, once it starts it runs fine.
Hope this helps, and again, I will be watching for other responses.

Cheers

Richard

assuming the both of you have no cold start injector, it might be that the cts is on its way out? the computer is not getting the proper reading to intialize the cold start enrichment circuit? this is a shot in the dark. as for even me i'm not sure since i have the cold start injector and have no cold start problems. well as i said i'm no expert and i'm not even sure. hope it guides you in the right way. maybe somebody has the actual answer for you guys.

I do have the cold start injector, but with mine, if I put the 305 PROM back in, the car starts with no problems, but doesnt want to start with the 350 PROM.

Cheers for the responses though guys.

you may have a problem with the fuel pump relay. it is next to the power brake booster in the engine bay.
the thing is this -- your fuel pump will run at startup or anytime oil pressure is over ~7 psi. however if this relay is bad the fuel pump will not be able to run until you generate 7+ psi of oil pressure which means ---

lots of cranking in the morning.
I would check it since the relay is only 10 bucks

Yep, I get the 2 second pump run at startup also. I did just change the fuel filter, and noted that as soon as I disabled the pump to relieve the fuel system, the engine died immediately.
Also, running data logging software, the 19# injectors are defenitely too small to support the 350 when driven hard.

Anyway, again, thanks for the responses, if anything else occurs to me I will post.

Cheers

Richard
