fuel pressure question
i installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 19lb ford inejctors into my 1986 tpi 305 engine.
i set the pressure back to stock which i think is between 47-49psi
would it be safe to adjust to go a little higher? and how much
this is not for racing just trying to get alll teh performance i can out of this engine.
any suggestions guys?

Re: fuel pressure question
I dont think stock pressure is 47 PSI, I think its mre like ~44/45PSI did you adjust it without vacuum ? orelse you have to do that..
DONT go higher than 50PSI because it will cause damage to the fuelpump over time.. The best thing is to try different pressure out, whats best for your engine.. if you set it too high you will loose some power. higher isnt always best..
So try some different pressures and see when it runs best.

Re: fuel pressure question
bobby_80s. did u have any issues when u installed ur new regulator? i bought the bbk adjustable one but it is just the housing with the screw in the top. it didnt come with the actual regulator, so i ordered just an oem one. i just installed it today and for some reason the ****er wont hold the pressure. the pump primes to 45(wich i believe is stock)while cranking pressure drops 5-10 psi. once idleing it sits at 35 psi. if i shut it off pressure drops almost instantly and within 10 mins its at 0psi. (wich is a symtom of a faulty regulator.) so my queston is does teh regulater sprin need to get broken in or did it hold pressure just fine for u the first time? im not looking forward to taking all the **** off again.
but to help answer ur question, i was reading an article on fuel pumps and they apperently have constantly 60-90 psi. the regulater then send the excess fuel pressure back. so i would assume u could bump pressure up a bit but i would not know how long the pump will last(assuming what TheKIng said about over 50psi ****s the pump up.) if our pumps were easily acessible i would say try it over 50 and when it craps out buy an aftermarket high performance one.
and yeah i think 44-45 psi is mor correct mabey even 42-43? the lowest my adjustable regulator goes is 45 psi so thats probably a safe # to go to.
i also included a link to bbks installation guide for the regulater. read step 11 to try and tune ur regulator.http://www.bbkperformance.com/produc...ion_pdf-46.pdf

Re: fuel pressure question
I installed a crane afpr and purchased a stock diaphram at autozone
had no problem installing it or running it.
i may take it out only because it makes this very loud annoying clicking/ticking sound where the plat inside bangs against the screw
also i was unaware i may need to reprogram my prom because the car is runnign a little richer with the higher psi and wont compensate enough without a new air/fuel ratio prgrammed into the ecm prom chip
so its noisy and making me run richer so i dont see a benefit
