NEED SOME HELP FAST: Overheating
Hey guys, I just bought a 89 Formula 350 today Ive test drove it a couple time and didnt notice a problem the SECOND I got it home I noticed steam coming from under the hood and the temp gauge was reading just above 220. I pop the hood and at the neck on the neck of the radiator where you put the cap on antifreeze was jsut pouring out of it. I let the preasure die down go and buy a new radiator cap, drive it around for a few minutes and I get the same thing. Does anyone have an idea what could be going on? In the morning Ill check to see if its cracked. It was to dark for me to really see anything. Any of you ahve any suggestions as to what it might be?
Thanks
Thanks
is the little air dam under the radiator still there? without that the thing will definetly overheat. Its a little piece of black plastis that sticks down below the radiator to pull air up through it. you might already know this and all, but that would be the first thing id check. then check to see if the fan/fans are coming on.
now is the coolent coming from the cap or from the neck of the rad.? maybe the radiator is cracked or something and needs to be replaced. how high above 220 did it get, and did you have the a\c on? mine climbs way above 220 when a\c on only, you might also wanna have it pressure tested, doesn't sound too bad. u might also wanna check the hoses and clamps, and maybe replace them.

the needle was jsut BARLEY past 220 Im tlaking about a millimeter so it wasnt to bad. The leak seems to be comming out from underneath the cap. Im gonna ask the local radiator shop about soldering on a new neck.

your fan switch could've gone. i had this problem with mine but its solved by simply driving aroudn with the air on all the time, which in florida i do anyways. got my new fan switch on tghe way though...
Ha I got it fixed. Its amazing what you can do with JB weld lol. I just cut a peice of wire a little less that 1/4" JB welded that on there, hte coverd the wire in JB weld and shaped it like the other side of the neck, then I sanded it a little bit to make it work, works perfect. I jsut took it around town cruising a didnt have a single problem.
