180* t-stat in my all stock car?
Hi guys, got a quick question. I have an 86 IROC 305 TPI auto and I am wondering about putting in a 180 degree t-stat. I have been searching up on this and I still cant get a strait awnser. The car is all stock! I do not want to change the chip or install a fan switch. Will this hurt performance, mileage, or whatever?? Will it prevent the car from reaching 220* in the summer/stop & go traffic?? Thanks for filling me in...
Well I just put a 180 in my basically stock car, it will not do anything in traffic. Only when you are moving at a decent rate, it will use the air damn under your car combined with the radiator to cool your car. If you want it to stay cool in traffic, you need a fan switch to go along with the thermostat or you have to chip it so that the fans are turned on at 180.
