Overheating still: help

Ok well I got the radiator fixed, its not loosing preasure there at all, the car was still overheating found out the fans werent comming on, put a new fan relay in, but the car still overheats at idle but get WAY cold driving. I got curious and when the engine was hot I bled some of the preasure out of the system so the coolant would come to the resavior, stuck a thermometer in there and it read 175? whats the deal? could it be the thermstat thats bad or a sensor?, and could this be realted why the car is idling so high?

if it does get cold when driving, have you checked the fuse for the fan?

lemme bounce something off ya.
if the thermostat never closes (160*) water
is constantly circulating. air comming across
the radiator cools the water. if the fans are
not on.. no air flow and the water can not transfer
heat properly. if the water stays in the radiator and the fans come on.. air flows
through the radiator and we have heat transfer.
the fans dont need to come on while cruising
down the highway because... air flows across
the radiator. hence why you dont have overheating
probs driving, just sitting still.
fans are on idling? then there isnt enough transfer
of heat from the water to the radiator to the
outside air. possible fan circulation problem,
retarded timing at idle, lean a/f mixture...
hope this helps

yup done all of it and its still doing it but I noticed something real weird that I ahvent noticed before. I was watching my guage and it was up on the bottom end or the red zone for maybe 12 seconds then all the sudden in maybe a 1.5 second period the needle gos down to around 210* and sticks there. whats up with that?

And airdeano, I know your trying to help and all but all that is common sense, and pretty much I knew it. thanks anyhow man Ive seen some of your other posts and they have helped me out a bit.

i had a probelm similar to this but it was a bad upper radiator hose that was sucking shut and not allowing flow, it didnt do it all the time either. so you have a new fan switch, relay and the fuse is good? go through the wiring harness and make sure that everything has a good connection/ground.i also had this problem with my current car. you could always put a switch that will turn ont he fans manually from the drivers seat, i have done this just incase all else fails.

assumming that both fans are coming on, and you did say the needle goes up close to the red and then come down all of a sudden. well there might be air in the system? or a bad temp switch? how old is your rad cap?

If all else fails, flush the system, replace the lower and upper hoses, and refill with 70% water 30% coolant, then rig a switch to the fans to use while idling.
