Serpentine conversion???
What exacty is sepentine? From what I've read it basically replaces all your belts with a metal chain so nothing slips, is this right? How much does it run, and how hard is it to install? I've read that it can give you a possible 20hp increase, how can different belts/chains add hp?

Buddy, you have to do a little more research before you post a question like this.
Serpentine, in the context of this message board, refers to the belt set-up on 88-92 camaro's and firebirds. The accessories are mounted to the engine block with aluminum brackets, and a single belt is employed to move all the pulleys. This belt snakes through the pulleys hence the serpent designation. Tension is given via a tensioner pulley also mounted to the brackets.
Belts are not made of metal. They are composed of the conventional belt material.
If you want to buy a set-up new, you are crazy. They can be found at Jim Pace, and www.sdpc2000.com or if you have thousands of dollars to throw away, March. Your local junk yard is your best bet. I picked up a set-up for 20 bucks. Just don't try to pocket anything while you are there or the Junk yard guy will flip and you will never be allowed in the junk-yard again.
OK, now this system will not add horsepower. There are very few things that add horsepower. What it will do is not take as much horsepower away from the engine. 20 hp is doubtful ...

the serpentine is a set up that replaces all your belts and alines your pulleys for one belt instead of 4 or 5 belts which will lesson the drag on the engine. if your interested I have a set of brakets w power stering pump and puleys.

Look at the before and after pics, and you will see the difference between V-belts and Serpentine belts.

Yes, the pump does rotate backwards, that was mentioned in the article.
I did notice that the serp belt was quieter, and it just seemed smoother. I didn't say it made the car faster, it just seemed a little smoother, watching it idle. The belts don't squeal at higher RPM or when I splash through a puddle either.
Also, repairs are so much easier. Instead of losening twelve brackets and getting all the damn belts in a knot, all it takes is one 1/2" drive pull handle and the belts off, then each accessory is only held on by two or three easy to access bolts, unlike the cobbled together mess GM origianally had.
