So ive searched, im familiar with these tpis ive owned 1 other 5.7 and 4 third gens total.

ive checked many things. and im getting to the point where im lost and need some guidance to get her cherry again.

1990 firebird formula 350 5.7 tpi

lets start with it ran a 14.90 and it has headers and a shift kit? my stock iroc 5.7 tpi ran a 14.5 and that was my first time out.

other then that its getting horrible gas mileage like 9mph

has a rough idle like a random miss at idle almost and you can just hear it in the exhaust that somethings not quite right. it dosent surge but maybe fluxuates 50 rpm with the roughness

and the last thing ive noticed is a sligh spark knock right off WOT when you punch it but it imidiatly goes away and dosent knock any other time.

and she burns losts of oil smokes off of stop lights and when you rev it. but not when cruising or after a couple seconds in wot. But it dosent smoke on cold startup in the morning.

im thinking several or all of these are related to the same problem and im hopeing for help.

one last thing. scan tools wont read data or codes. but when i turn the key off the scan tools picks up data for a second then goes away?

so i cant even read live running data to help me find the problem.

couple things ive done

timing 6* with est dsconnected

17.-- on all 8 injectors. ran fuel system cleaner though tank and seafoam though intake

new egr. and it still wont even stumble when you open it at idle.

no codes. and the light does work and i can jump a &b and get the flashing cel

new plugs. newer accel 300 wires none of them are burn or arching at night.

the whole dist is newer.

fuel pressure is 42 at idle and koeo 50ish at wot

so. if anyone can enlightent me on anything. that would be awesome.

and ive checked almost everything.

try tapping on the PCM and see if the car runs any different or stalls, you might have a bad PCM

 

ok, i'll try that. it also seems to be knocking more now under load, but it seems kind of random.
