No oil leaks just a smell...could it maybe be valve seals??

My car does the same thing, and im pretty sure it is the valve seals, my freinds 86 does it also, and we are both around 140k so its no big surprise.

your valve seals are the culprit of your start up smoke if it's blue. if it starts smoking after 5 to 10 minutes at idle (like sitting at a fast food drive up) then your rings are bad also. with saying you smell it at WOT tells me you do have an oil leak at the rear of your valve covers or your distributor mount gasket. both are hard to see and if it's minor, you won't see anything on the ground cause it all burns off. i have two irocs and have experienced all the above. except for the rings, all are easy fixes by a home mechanic however, replacing valve seals is time consuming and you must have compressed air to fill the cylinder so the valves don't fall.
