Car runs much better, but now another question!

Well, after much screwing around, I went ahead and changed the CTS on my car. Night and day difference guys, I could tell a difference from the instant I started it. Now I have my FP back up to 48 and no black smoke! Now another question, after futzing with the car some, I took it out and ran it with the G-tech a bunch of times. The best I did was 14.00 at 104.3. All times were very consistent. Wanting that extra tenth, I got curious what would happen if I took out my Hypertech thermomaster and put the stock one back in. So I threw it back in, put 10 gallons of gas in the car, went out and drove for a little while so it could relearn itself, went back to the same spot, and ran a best of 14.01 at 104.1. Before I could feather the throttle and hook it up, but now I couldnt control the wheelspin. How is it possible that I am running almost the same times with the stock prom? You have to consider that there was probably around 70 more pounds in the car with the 10 gallons of fuel I dumped in it. I understand that alot of people dont like Hypertech, but could their chips be THAT bad, like worse than stock? One other thing to mention, I believe the knock sensor is pulling alot of timing out because my motor has an undetermined source ticking noise from the passenger side. Your thoughts?

TPI,

I have a HyperScrap ThermoMaster paperweight on my desk as a reminder NOT to believe advertising claims. I do much better overall with the stock GM upgraded PROM in my '86. ]

I'm not surprised you have similar results. The "final answer" seems to be burning your own PROMs, or hooking up with someone who does. There is so little changed in teh HyperScrap programs that the cost and effort are a complete waste.

Just my experience and 2¢.
