I was wondering how you convert an '87 5.7l to a MAP system? What are all the parts I would need? What are the benefits?

Thanks,

Rod

I think? all you would need is a new computer and the wiring harness for it. I don't know too much about SD, but I do know its not as forgiving to modifications as a MAF system.

Why do you want to convert from MAF to SD? I have been helping a buddy reprogram the eprom of his 89 MAF car and we have been getting excellent results. It is a 383 Miniram using AFR 195 Competion ported heads with 2.05 intakes. Yes, he maxes the MAF @ 5,000 rpm. But by adding additional fuel via the PE Tables, we are able to compensate for that.

While MAF cars do compensate on the fuel fairly well (his MAF Scalar Tables are still the stock ARAP BIN settings), we do see a need to "tweak them". On ALL MAF cars, the biggest gains for performance is in proper control in the spark advance. In fact, this is also true for SD cars (once you got the VE Tables set right).

MAF cars DO benefit for an eprom change for mods, but you need to concetrate on the spark tables.

I think if you were to get into eprom burning instead and use the 89 MAF ARAP BIN as your starting point, you will get all the results you are hoping for. I would only dumping the MAF if: 1) you have a LARGE motor with serious mods and plan to run very high rpms (> 6,400 rpm) or 2) your sensor is not working properly and you don't want to spend the money on replacing it.
