350 block with 305TPI sys??

Have a 85Z28, it had a 305TPI till it locked up on me. I was going to rebuild anyways. But I take it to a good shop. Tell this guy I want to rebuild 305,he say's $1950 all work. Head machinist comes in says he did a 86 camaro about two years ago with a 350 block and machined 305 heads to keep TPI sys. Is this really poss? What type of problems would I face with something like this. Right now I have stock 700R4, with 3.73 in the back. What will need to be modified as for ECM,fuel, cooling, driveline, supension? Thanks.

You can bolt in a 350 without any problems. No need to "machine" your 305 heads to "fit" the 350,, or the TPI. Maybe he was talking about surfacing the heads,, fixxing anything that was worn,, maybe replace the springs while you're there,,, I don't know what he meant,, but I don't know the context either. Anyway all that adds up quick but $1950 is a little high for a 305,, even if he pulls and installs it. If you're not a big time performance freak and just want a reliable engine with a little more pep and willing to spend $1950 --- You should be able to get a brand new Goodwrench 350 from your local Chevy dealer for under $1400 (including tax),, and should find someone willing to swap over everything for less than $550.

absolutely, positively,in other words stay away from it..........305 heas on a 350 wll work as good as a 3 wheeled wagon.go to your local gm dealership and buy a replacement motor it will be cheaper and the tp from your 85 will bolt rght on to it.

305 Tpi will bolt up to ANY stock casting pre-87 SBC heads. I'm using an 86 305 Tpi system on my 350 with 993 stock casting SBC heads. 87 or 88 is when GM changed things on the TPI engine.

You'll have to get fuel injectors
for a 350 but every thing else will
bolt right up.Also run and don't look
back that guy at the shop was trying to
Rape you stay away from those guys.
