ticking noise when cold

I just had my 350 TPI rebuilt and I put a Crane cam in it and headers. When the engine is cold there is a ticking noise only between 3000 and 3500 rpm's. But after the motor warms up it goes away. Does anyone know what might cause this. Thanks.

89,

Umm, you must really like rebuilding engines. Why would you operate a cold engine at those RPMs? I don't like to break 2,000-2,500 until the coolant temperature is at least 150-160°F. That's the point at about which the oil is pumping well enough to have a chance to lubricate under those kinds of loads. The lack of oil flow at cold temperatures is likely a contributing factor to the valve noise:

Oil warms up + noise disappears = you figure it out.
