vss/wiring/tpi swap queston
I have an 87 tuned port setup that I plan on puting on a 350 and I want to convert it to speed density. I have the electric spedometer out of an 87 and have heard that the vss for the speed density is different. I was wondering if they are actually different. If they are I was wondering if it is possible to set it up so that I can use the newer vss and my spedometer still work properly.

Yes, they are different. The 7165 ECM operates on 2000 pulses The 7730 is 4000.
You will need to get a VSS from a SD car.
Then the two wires from it feeds into the ECM direct(not thru a buffer) the output from the ECM then drives the speedo and the cruise control.

The VSS itself will work with both SD and MAF. I have a "MAF car" VSS in my SD car and it works juust fine.
Momar, that VSS will work just fine with the speed density computer.
