Is it worth my time to change from ZZ-3 Cam to ZZ-9?
I have a midly modified 350 (ported heads, ported big mouth intake, large tube runners, 52MM throttle body, ZZ-3 cam, headers, and all free mods), is it worth my effort to change the cam to a ZZ-9?
Thanks

IMHO, no it wouldn't be worth it. Changing to an appreciably larger cam like the LT4 HOT cam or a CompCams 218/224 would actually make a difference, but the ZZ9 cam only has a few more degrees of duration. Plus, you can get the other cams much cheaper.

It would work pretty well, but you could go even larger depending on how many c.i. we're talking about. For a 383, a 224/230 or 224/236 cam would be better, possibly 230/236 if you're burning your own chips or can go to a place that will burn chips for you and help tune it up.

Yes, you can install the LT4 HOT cam in any 1st-gen '87+ SBC, but it won't idle very well in any engine less than a 350. Mine still idles a little rough at 750 rpm, but I'm getting 14" of vacuum in Drive at that engine speed. A better cam for the 305 would be the regular LT4 cam or something like the Xtreme 206/212 or High Energy 210/220 (both from CompCams).

The ZZ9 is a "tweaked" version of the ZZ3 & ZZ4 cam according to TPIS. I have a brand new one that I am not going to use. Anyone want one for a killer deal?
