timing not sure on whats wrong

okay i have an 88 tpi motor that i built it is running off an 87 tpi computer a 305 ( that might also be the problem ). it has an LT4 hot cam and some nice worked on heads. anyway i go run my car and it will start and stay started but when i go to put it in drive or reverse it wants to die. if i give it some gas it will stay on but if i go to a light it will stall. i do have a bigger stall converter ( 2500 ) i want to time the car as i seem to think that thats the problem but im not sure how to do that. i have an MSD pickup coil and MSD cap and rotor and an MSD 6A setup. im not sure what to disconnect or what not. also not sure do u time the car in drive or in park. im very lost please help this is my daily driver and i haven't been able to drive the car in months

I'm not sure how, or if the MSD stuff affects you...but...you need to find the EST bypass connector, usually loacted in the pass side fenderwell, up around maybe ny the heater box...or along the top of the fender well...tan/black wire in a singlr plug connector.

Have to disconnect it, in order to set base timing. Then shut car off, reconect connector, and fire it back up...this way, SES light won't be staring at you for the next 50 starts
