SD Vette ECM/Harness

I'm knee deep in acquiring parts for a tpi retro-fit. All I have left to go is ECM, wiring harness, and sensors. I'm want to use the corvette speed density ECM due to the fact that it's pretty weathertight, and I'm probably going to buy a painless wiring harness. My question:

Do the connectors for the vette SD ECM and the third-gen f-bodies interface?

I ask this question because of the following information from www.fuelinjection.com :

While the 90-92 systems are cheaper to manufacture, it is questionable as to whether Speed density is better than the Mass Air Flow System, especially when GM brought the MAF back in the 94 LT1. But who are we to question GM engineering. All systems appear to perform very well indeed. The 90-94 system has a single relay for the fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment. There is no ESC module as previously discussed. These functions are performed by a module in the ECM/PCM. The ECM's for the 90- 92 Camaro and Pontiac are different than the 90/91 Corvette.

The Pontiac and Camaro use a 1227730 ECM and the Corvette uses a 1227727 ECM. The difference between the two is in the ECM enclosure and ECM connectors. The Corvette enclosure is built for mounting in the engine compartment.

Camaro/ Pontiac are built for mounting in the passenger compartment. Internally they are the same. Calibrators are interchangeable. It should also be noted that the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) connector IS NOT normally part of the Factory Engine Harness. It is normally part of the instrument panel harness. The factory engine harness also includes a number of connectors which are not required for "Off Road Use". These connectors are Air Management, Transmission, EGR, Electric Fan, Instrument Panel Oil Pressure Sender, Water Temperature sender, AC High Pressure Switch, VSS and VATS module to mention a few.

If not, does Painless make a harness that will interface.

Silly question, why not just look at a 7730 ECM from a 3.1 Cavalier/Corsica/Berretta/Grand Am? Your conversion will go a lot easier if you use the parts intended for the F-body. As for programming, they are virtually identical, except for the Vette requires the Oil Temp sendor and there is some code for the Instrument Panel.

It's been a while since I looked at the 7727 (Vette) but I do recall the "pinning" being slightly different. I cannot recall if the connectors themselves are different. You could always make an "adapter" by taking the connectors from a Vette (or Lumina/Grand Prix) and then running wires back to the corresponding pins on your F-body harness.

I repinned my 85 MAF to 90 SD. My car is a Vette and the ECM I used was the F-body (730). I did this because the connectors ARE different for the 7727. In other words, the 85-89 Vettes have the same style computer plug that the 85-92 F bodys have, but the 90-91 Corvette does not have this same style.

If you run a F-body chip, you will not have to worry about the code (52 or 53, can't remember which) for the Low Oil Temperature. I am running a Vette bin so I do have the code...just haven't prog'd another chip with the error masked.

As far as the dash interface that was mentioned earlier, the only thing I can think of dealing with that are the VSS wires, which took a little work to get to work. -Matt-
