Who has the MSD timing controller????
I have the 6AL box and the timing controller but I can't seem to get the timing controller to work recently. Correct me if I'm wrong but this does work with our stock HEI,ignition module and computer?
Car is a ZZ4TPI auto MAP car. MSD6AL, Taylor 8MM, AC Delco R44LTS plugs.
Thanks

Rob,
If you would like give me an address or fax number and I will shoot you some instructions. If it's not the hook up that is the problem give me some more information and I will try and trouble shoot it for you.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the quick reply. I have the instructions that came with the unit and I seem to have had it working before. However, my car became possessed by evil spirits and I had to unplug the MSD and go back to a stock ignition system to do some troubleshooting. I then re-hooked everthing up and the timing controller has no effect. The 6AL is working fine. I guess I just want to be sure the timing controller works with the factory computer and chip (since they call the timing) and that it will not harm the ignition module in anyway (I doubt it will or MSD probably wouldn't sell it eh?)
Plus I guess I just need to go back over all the wires again and make sure I got good connections.
Thanks.

The unit will still alter the timing even thought the computer is doing its thing. Make sure that the 0-15 **** is plugged into the black and gray wire, common mistake. Also check the **** for resistance, it should read 0-10K. If the **** is bad let me know and I will shoot you out another one. Make sure that the factory negative wires are hooked to the timing control and the timing control is tied to the white of the MSD box.

Okay she's hooked up and working but a few questions. My base timing is set at 6deg advance. When I plug the MSD controller in does my timing revert to the controller only? What happened is with my base set at 6 deg and the timing controller at zero the car is very sluggish. She does not pick up and run normal until I have the controller set at like 13 or 14 deg advanced. So does the controller cause my timing to be whatever is on the dial regardless of what I have base timing set at?
Thanks

I have a couple of qustions........
1) Rob P did you have a letter in HTP 3 or 4 years ago?
2) Will the MSD timing controller work with other boxes? I have an Accel 300+.
Thanks.

Yes I believe I did have a letter. Can't really remember what it was about now! Probably something with my L98 install. I remember I faxed it from work in Norfolk.
The instructions say the MSD timing controller must be used with a 5, 6 or 7 series MSD box. So probably a no go with the accell but I'll let MSD Tech answer that for sure.
