underdrive pullies and belt?
I was thinking of removing A.I.R. from my car. From what I understand, I'll need a new belt and pully (or pullies?) while I'm at it.
Since I have to go through the trouble of this anyway, I was thinking about putting in underdrive pullies. How exactly do these save horsepower, how much do they cost, and can you guys recommend a set?
I read one post a while back where a guy had underdrive pullies that were causing problems in his engine. (blowing out pumps or something?) Is this a typical problem?
In either case, if I go with underdrive pullies and delete AIR, what pullies and belt will I need?
If I just delete AIR, what pullies and belt will I need?
Thanks!
Bill

Re: underdrive pullies and belt?
just snip the air pump belt thats all. i have power pullies. the only problems i ever had with them( well major problem) was with both my cooling fans on i kept draining the battery at the englishtown tech inspection line i had to get jumped 5 times that night. when im idiling im getting just about 8volts back into my battery. and when im driving everything is fine. i didnt feel much with em. but thats up to you. however i did feel the car come alive when i snipped the a/c belt and air belt. brought her to life i feel.
----------
whoops you may not have the 4 belt system like i do. if not im not really sure in that case. my tpi has seperate belts for the air pump /a/c powersteering and alt and cooling

Re: underdrive pullies and belt?
lordmetal,
Thanks for the fast reply. I guess I won't be buying the underdrive pullies then!
So you're saying if I remove AIR, I wont need to buy a new belt, just cut off the old one?
Thanks again!
