heads and cam for a 305 tpi

I have a 91 formula with the 305tpi. I'm trying to figure out what heads and cam will work best with it. I have already purchased headers, flowmaster cat back, had my pleneum ported, accel runners, injectors, afpr I will be getting a different intake as soon as I figure out what heads to get. I'm debating between torqer heads and the gm performance vortec heads and was thinking about the zz4 cam. any suggestions besides building a 350?

If your getting a new intake already I say its Vortecs for the win! Cant beat the value and they work great right out of the box. As for cam I would get something in the 214 duration range for a 305 that has a TPI. But thats as high as I would go. I had a 204/214 duration cam in my LG4 a while back and it went up to about 5500 really well, which is all your TPI is going to want any way. Sure you might make more power peak with more duration but your going to loose your tq and average power.

Just my $.02

Re: heads and cam for a 305 tpi

the trick flow heads for the TPI are supposed to be pretty nice

if you are changing intake, go vortec

i put the edelbrock tpi heads on her car, i didn't know about the vortec at the time, however, on her 350, WOW, night and day difference.

heads make/break the car, not to mention aluminum saves weight too

I was leaning toward the vortecs but they are made for the 350 and have larger combustion chamber I think 64cc and the 305 runs 58cc I think I was worried that going larger I would lose compression and also maybe have clearance issues with the valves.

Re: heads and cam for a 305 tpi

I thought the trick flow heads were 56cc or 54 cc
which should be perfect for the 305
not to mention with good tunning could also use 87 octane and it would run fine

i am not 100% sure, but depending on how much valve lift you have the 64cc heads might be fine, but i would get confirmation on that, and yes, you will loose some compression, but the head flow can make up for it, albeit at the cost of the TPI flowing air

http://www.trickflow.com/partdetail....7&autoview=sku

that should do the trick
56cc
175cc flow

Those are nice heads but costly. I was hoping to come in around $800. Other than being aluminum and lighter what advantage do these have over the torker s/r's? They should be comparable right?

Re: heads and cam for a 305 tpi

Get the 305 vortecs or have the 64cc ones milled down to get the chambers to 58cc's....... Problem solved.
