Rough Idle/running rich Update with pics!
Got back under the dash today. Located the BOM connector, disconnected it, cleaned it, and inspected the wiring. Thought I'd take some pics while I was at it:

Burn off module connector, and all the other ecm wiring disconnected.

Connector disconnected and cleaned with MAF cleaner.

Found this while inspecting the BOM wiring...it was wrapped in elec. tape, but could it cause anything bad?
Tried to run the car with the Module disconnected...it was much worse. Hoping a good cleanin' might have helped...waiting for it to dry right now.
Here's a brief from the last 5 months:
New cts, new IAC, new fuel pump, new injectors, timing set at 10btdc, new O2, new esc module, vacuum in spec, compression good, new spark plugs, tps good and properly adjusted, many other things check out good.
Only get 10v at the MAF, and no burnoff function after shutdown...thats why I'm diggin' around under the dash now. The BOM only applys to '85s...it controls the power to the maf and the burnoff.

Re: Rough Idle/running rich Update with pics!
Update: that didn't make a bit of difference. Car fired up, spit, sputtered, and died this morning. Had to use throttle to keep it runnin' for a minute or so. Black smoke out exhaust on revs. I wish I had the car here so I could check voltage at the MAF again, that would show if the cleanin' did anything, or if the BOM just needs replaced.
Can't do anything with it right now, the car is on the lift. The old rearend that is in a million pieces is comin' out, new one goin' in.
If the BOM doesn't help me, I'm lookin' at a vacuum gauge, comp. guage, and a timing gun again.
Anybody got a working '870 ecm layin' around?

have you tried the 'tapping' the maf trick to see if the maf is no good?
If you look up mike davis (here? or on the internet, can't remember)he wrote up an article(or two) regarding upgrading the ecm to later model units, might be helpful if you can't find the old '870 ecm and related BOM stuff. you get a faster ALDL as well for scanning which might help pinpoint problems.

Re: Rough Idle/running rich Update with pics!
I haven't tried tapping the MAF because the one in the car now is known working, no doubts. When I put the known faulty one in from my T/A, it was horrible!
I've seen his articles, very good write ups. I don't want to repin though because I'd have to go through the tuning process again, which was a pain two years ago; TPIS hit the nail on the head with it though!
BTW, ecm in the car now is a NAPA reman unit that appears to be about 10 years old. I keep throwing a code 24 for some reason, the aldl won't talk to my laptop (have the proper setup, can see spark tables and other constants), and I'm running pig rich....hmm.
