15* BTC ?
Just out of curiosity what are most of you with mild to wild cams running for base timing.Mine is set at 15 and i think thats a lil too much for a mild cam and aluminum l98 heads with a angle valve job? I thought it should be around 10..maybe 12 max

I run 6° base timing, but I have fast burn heads, and yes the ECM is set to 6° as well.

I believe when the ecm was programmed it was set to 8* but it was so long ago i cant remember or find the documents i got with it and same for my cam specs :S but from what most people i know around here are saying 6-8* is normal on stock motors.

Re: 15* BTC ?
I found an interesintg but distubring factor aswell. While using my timing light as I increased timing the car ran better and crisper throttle respone and picked up idle with the spout disconnected. When I checked the reading for base timing on my snap on timing light it was 33* btc.Im starting to think that maybe the timing chain is off.Anyone have ideas,Id really like to lock my timing in and not feel sluggish or backfire at idle or just the pressure of my foot on the gas pedal in gear

Spout? Sounds like Ford nomenclature.
Do you mean the Set Timing Connector?
Don't let it confuse you, if the timing mark is strobing within the timing tab it has to be between 0-12° BDTC.

Re: 15* BTC ?
Thats what i mean. The connector that you unplug to set the base timing.i had the car running and it was fully warmed up,unplugged that connector and then i set my timing gun to 12* and turned the dizzy untill i saw the timing mark on the timing tab line up with 0.i tried this at a few different setting and all felt sluggish..backfired a lil.I got fed up and tried letting the car run with the spout disconnected and keep advancing base timing until it sounded happy. Then i kept my timing light pointed at the tab and when i adjusted it to about 30* i saw the timing mark again and by 33* it was then lined up at 0.I have a snap on digital timing light.
