are the injectors bad???

just rebuilt the 305 tpi. added ported LB9 heads, portmatched TPI base, 1.6rr, rhoades flat tappet lifters, new pushrods, new walbro 255lph high pressure fuel pump, started it up car runs fine in park... no miss smooth idle. set timing to 8 degrees BTDC with the computer disconnected and ADL jumped. when car is put in drive tho... car bogs down and runs rough, when in park and reved sumtimes the car will have a slight miss in the upper rpm ranges.

car has new E3 plugs/wires/ 50,000v hypertech HEI distributer and accel control modual. the wires are good and its firing, OHM checked the stock 130,000 19lb injectors and all the injectors were in the 17.2-17.4 range. when we put the fuel rail back on with new injector O-rings... i noticed a couple of the injector plastic tips were cracked on the nossels but not blocking the pintel hole... so wat is the problem? gas was about 2 yrs old... could be bad gas so i threw in 5 gallons of premium since the car only had 1/8 tank... anything else?

seems to really only been in drive/under load that the motor is bad... converter is about 1800 stall and trans is new only bout 1000 miles.

you have old Bosch series 1 in that car stock.. ohm check will only tell you if the coils are bad. But if the car was sitting the injectors are probably clogged up. Only the Multecs from, 89 up had the bad coil problem.. Call jon at FIC and get a set of bosch 3's/ www.fuelinjectorconnection.com

Re: are the injectors bad???

yea but they are a good bit of $$... i was thinkin of ford 19lbs for like 192$ they are EVI and will fit, bci have the ford SVO 30lb's for my 383. is there anyway to test wat ones are clogged without flow benching them? we could throw in sum fuel injection cleaner and see if it helps or just bite the bullet and throw new injectors on it... car is not a performer... just a stock rebuild with a 350tpi cam and ported heads... just wanted a more UMPH grocery getter

The 19lbs from FIC are only $169 and they come with a 3 year warranty. They have been modified to have the same installation height as the stock injectors.

Re: are the injectors bad???

You are not using the right procedure for setting the advance. You do not jump the ADL when setting the timing! Before turning on the engine, simply disconnect the DST wire.

Re: are the injectors bad???

thats wat i did the first time. we diconnected the DST wire, single wire/tan/black by the blower motor. set timing. my father said i wasnt doing it right, that i had to jump the ADL... looked it up in 2 diff manuals they both said to jump the ADL, after timing was already set with just the ADL, we tested plugging in the DST wire and jumping the ADL, manual says to rev engine and check timing... if timing jumps when engine is reved then car must be turned off and DST wire disconnected, it did rev with the ADL jumped. so we did the DST wire and ADL again and timing was exactly the same. timing was set to 8 degrees BTDC.
