Need ideas for chip, fan switch, thermo...
Ok, my '89 IROC-Z (350 TPI) has been sitting for some time now. And it is time to get it back to driving around, so I wanted to take care of a few things. Really, I want to replace a few maintenace items, clean the fuel rails, etc....
I remember back in the day about the 'ol Hypertech chip, fan switch, and the thermostats that they offered. And getting back into the TPIs (as I have been in diesel land for awhile), I have read several times that the Hypertech may not be the way to go.
Can anyone offer an alternative to these items? And I really don't want to try a DIY PROM, as I have another Camaro project in prgoress. This will just be a driver, looking for the best MPGs I can get from it. But I did want to get a few more ponies from it, and possibly try to make it run cooler.
Anyway, I'd appreciate the help!

chips dont really help much. DIY for a mild bolt on car is easy, especially MAF cars. you can do that yourself and its somewhat easy to learn after a little while of playing with it
i have a hypertech fan switch,i think its a hypertech i dont recall, but its 176 degree on/166 degree off and i got a TPIS 170 degree T stat. Works pretty good together. Also wired the one fan to a ground switch to have it turn on whenever i want.
good combination and keeps my 383 cool with stock radiator. It really helped the L98 to have the fans come on early and the lower T stat. I wouldnt go 160 degree. 170-180 is great for these cars. They run abit better hot
