I would like your Opinion!

Hey guys. Well recently the GTA has been smoking just a little on startup, no big deal really just some worn guides (it has 154k). But the other day, I stomped on it and to my suprise the car puffed black smoke along the way. So Im figuring its trying to tell me that its days are numbered...so I figure...

CAM IT!

Now before I loose to many of you. What I want your opinion on is this combo:
Replace stock 083 (<-dont quote that) heads with a set of worked 416s, and replace stock bumpstick with (drumroll) COMP Cams 08-413-8! Its a 220/224 duration hyd/roller with .474 lift...oh and its supposed to be for a truck.

haha. With all seriousness im going to build a new shortblock for it soon. But seeing as were not all made of cash it will have to come later. Now my reasoning for the camshaft came down like this... AHEM.

Bad guides need to be replaced = Heads will be off car
Heads off car = Good time to change old factory valve springs
New Valve Springs = This is too much $$ for crappy heads
Crappy heads = slap on good heads
And with that....MAY AS WELL STICK IT!

My thought is the bump in piston squeeze and the new cam ought to work well with the basic charactoristics of our (notso)beloved TPI system. The cam advertises 1500-5500 which will work well for the TPIs operation range of Idle-5000 rpm. Doncha think?

Well Flame on!

Well the cam may make more torque which looking at you time you may have a hook up problem already. But I think your logic is correct for replacing the cam. Party on!
