Has anyone used this cam in a L98, if so will there be any noticeable difference than what comes factory in the L98. This engine is in a 1989 IROC-Z.

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

thats not much bigger than the stock l98 cam at all. actually imo 89 l98 cam is pretty decent. If youre car is semi stock, id just throw a good set of 1.6rr's to gain a little power on youre stock cam. But if youre gun ho to do a cam swap. there's way better options out there for youre car than an lt1 cam. go to tpis.com, they recommend some good cams for l98's.

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

Hi Folks
I know this is an old thread but I put in the LT4 Hot Cam and it moves out. I also have SLP headers, runners, larger injectors, and a new PROM. The cam is a very good choice, sounds good but you will need a new PROM.
thanks
Bill

The thread is about the LT1 cam... not the LT4 Hot Cam.

I am glad to see you can read and nothing better to do - however if you read 8T9 BANDIT thread - he stated there isn't too much difference between the L98 and LT1, I was just making a suggestion for another CAM. Just my .

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

A cam swap is one of the last things you should do to your engine, considering how bad the stock heads are, and all the parts and pieces you have to remove (and should upgrade/replace) to get to it.

What else have you done to your engine?

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

Basically stock, I am taking out my 305 and putting in the 350. The engine already has the Lt1 injectors and I will be installing headers

Hi Marcus88,
I believe what everybody is telling you is do the other things first, Headers (good bang for the buck), heads (I have ported Edelbrock heads), intake runners, etc. When I went to the cam I have most of the other things installed so it easy to make a cam decision. The other decision you have to make is this, with the engine out of the car – it easy to replace the cam. Once in the car, not so easy. But you are the only one that has to make that decision. The thing is where you want to be with the engine when it all say and done – how much power adders.
Thanks
Bill

Nothing better to do? I was trying to contribute to a thread the same as you did. So following your logic, you must have nothing better to do as well.

I wasn't trying to be rude - I just misread the post. But thank you for following up with a rude reply.

I agree 100%, save the cam until you actually need it. The stock cam is plenty big for the stock heads, lower intake, runners, plenum, and stock exhaust. The three biggest improvements you can make are oversize runners and intake/plenum porting, full exhaust, and a full exhaust. Once you get what you have breahing well, you can switch to a hotter cam and better heads. Right now if you were to go with better heads and cam, the stock intake/exhaust parts would kill your power.

EDIT- A 94+ LT1 cam will wake up your TPI slightly all through the RPM band.

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

Just to point out: the specs listed in the original post are for the B-body LT1 cam. That's a good cam for a heavy car or a truck, but you would definitely want the F or Y-body LT1 cam in a light vehicle like the 3rd Gen.

That really depends on the application. Some F-cars could easily run better with the B-car/Vortec truck roller cam. Depends on the gearing and useage. I bet the smaller cam would run very well in a taller geared car.

That's true. If you weren't doing other mods like gearing or freeing up the intake and exhaust to take advantage of a few more rpm, then the B-car/Vortec cam's stronger low end and midrange would make it the better choice.
BTW, I AM the Number 1 fan of the B-car LT1 cam  .....running 12.3's all motor in a 1996 ImpalaSS, the only part of the engine opened up has been the valve covers to upgrade the springs and installed 1.6 roller rockers.
