Re: speed density ? TBI to TPI

89 and earlier will be Mass Airflow. 90-92 Will be Speed density. My suggestions is that you stick with what year of your car is to what year TPI set up your going with. Things easier that way but its up to you. Read around and you will find out alot more on this. Its very important. 89 and earlier does not just fit directly with 90-92.

Re: speed density ? TBI to TPI

You can use the '89 TPI but you'll have to use a 90-92 speed density harness and ECM. You'll also have to drill and tap a hole for a third vacuum fitting on the plenum to keep the MAP,fuel pressure regulator and the other vaccum systems happy. This is required on the '89 since it only has 2, so if you actually used a 90-92 TPI this wouldn't be an issue.

Actually you don't even need to switch harnesses. It is easy to re-pin your TBI harness and reconfigure it to a TPI harness. Just need the diagrams, the Yellow 7730 ECM connector, injector connectors, and correct pigtails for the TPI sensors. Then layout everything, solder all the connections, and heat shrink. Problem solved. I converted my van to TPI and still have the bulk of the Van TBI harness intact.

The Tan/White/Orange wire on the floor is the factory ALDL connection on fullsize vans. The Purple and Green wires go to the wideband controller that I installed behind the dash. Its all in thin wire loom and under carpet padding and carpet now.
