1985 Trans Am High Idle

I have a 1985 Trans Am 305 TPI Auto with a high idle and when i go to put it in gear the tires spin and somtimes with brakes on. Could it be the Thermostat or Idle Air Control Valve? Thanks

Is your check engine light on? I would first try properly setting the IAC and idle speed. Directions here:

Also, verify that base timing is set correctly with a timing light - if it's too far advanced it could bump up the idle speed.

Keep in mind just how weak normal rear brakes are as well. And is the idle high after warm up or is this cold weather related.

After warm up and somtimes a little harder to start it takes more cranks or have to hold the key longer to start but yes does this when warm.
