cam suggestions?
Hey guys
As listed in my sig, I have an 82 trans am that has the original 305 that i recently swapped a TPI intake on. It still has the stock block and heads but Im running the crane powermax 114132 (2040) cam. I installed this a while back to replace the stock cam that had a lobe rounded off. I'd really like to put a 'lopey' cam in with some 1.5-1.6 rr's and maybe go with the wp torquer 305 heads & a higher flowing intake base and runners. Unfortunately ive been out of the v8 scene for a bit and don't know a lot about cam specs. I could really use some advice as far as choosing a cam and rr's. I know my stock setup has solid (hydraulic?) lifters. Can i even run 1.5-1.6 rr's? What cam should I go with to increase flow, give my car some 'shake n' bake', & work with the torquer heads & intake? I've been reading some posts about lt1 cams, would this work for my proposed setup? I also was thinking of installing a supercharger in the near future.

If your going with a blower pretty soon, you should cam the motor around that. Go to the power adder board to get some advice from the blower/turbo/nitrous guys.
I'm putting an LT1 cam in my 305 after the holidays sometime. It's not a lot of cam, but much more than the 305 automatic cars got. I think its just a hair bigger than a stock tpi 350. Remember that the LT1 is a factory hydraulic roller. If you have a flat tappet cam in your '82, and I think you do, the LT1 won't work without a lot of work and more money. Now if your talking about the early 70s flat tappet LT1 cam, it would go in your motor, but would probably be a little much for most 305's

Re: cam suggestions?
This has been covered many times. There is an article in the tech boards called"Opinion. What everyone should know" or something like that.Gives you a decent idea(IMO) of what cam you may need.lopey and tpi dont go together.LT1 with 1.6 rr would be a good choice for your 305.Almost the same as my LT4 w/1.6rr.Do some searching like redliterunner said.I`m sure your question has been asked and answered before. With stock heads I`d have some work done to them or go aftermarket.
