Balancer question...

The person who had my car before me had an aftermarket crate motor put in it. The problem is I think I have the wrong harmonic balancer on the car because with #1 cyl. at tdc the timing mark on the balancer is strait up and not off to the driver side any where close to where the timing tab is. Also the timing tab sits about 3/4 inch above the balancer. Am I correct in thinking this is the wrong balancer. I tryed setting the mark on zero degrees and stabing the distibuter pointing at #1 and the car wont even think about running. (on the compression stroke of course)

I really think I have the wrong balancer on here and if I do...what is the correct one. What is the stock balancer size and what recomendations do ya'll have for an aftermarket balancer. Thanks for any help.
