AFR/Trick Flow Heads and Base Plate
What base plates can be used with the AFR and Trick Flow heads with a TPI system. Since these heads flow so well you would probably want to use a TIPS big mouth base plate with their runners or Arizona Speed & Marine runners. I know it would be very restrictive and you would not want to do it; however, would a stock manifold bolt up to these heads? I did a search and could not find an answer to these questions.
Also, I read that you have to drill holes to install temperature sending units and secondary fan temperature switch. What about EGR passages with these heads?

Re: AFR/Trick Flow Heads and Base Plate
I had the Edelbrock manifold base with AFR 195's (#1034); you can get the AFRs with the two center holes drilled at 72*, but the Edelbrock base (at least the one I was using) accepts both intake-to-head bolt patterns. My AFRs have the EGR passage in one head, which is installed to match the EGR passage in the manifold (R/H side). The holes for the sensor and fan switch are drilled in the heads. HSR intake is also working fine, but you need beveled washers under the four center intake mainfold bolts, unless you get heads with the "standard" intake bolt-holes angle. The TPiS Miniram EGR kit can be adapted to work with the HSR.

You also might check into a Holley stealth ram upper and lower intake, I have that on my 87 GTA and I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Gobbs of low end torque and it doesn't fall on it's face after 4500 rpms either. I got my intake used for $425 shipped to my door.

The Trick Flow heads you buy from Summit are drop in, ready to go. They come with the EGR passages.
AFR's are customizable to your specs, for extra cost. You have to call them and order them as "street heads" so you get the right holes for your sensors, and the EGR passages drilled.
Yes you should definitely get an aftermarket TPI intake, such as from Edelbrock, to go with the higher flow of those heads. The stock manifold will bolt on, but it will not be optimal.

Re: AFR/Trick Flow Heads and Base Plate
I am doing this right now all parts are in the garage,i will be adding TF 195cc and Edelbrock intake with SLP runners who is siamesed together with a ported stock plenum,i dont have the time or money right now for a complete rebuild so i will be using 1.6 alu rockers on the otherwise stock L98 engine(cam415/430 lift).
I am planning also later on to do a 383 rebuild, should be a great street engine with a little bit bigger cam say something in the 480 range.
Edit: By the way the TF from Summit look really nice and seems to be a quality head as far as i can judge right out of the box.
regards Mats
