SLP runners on a 305...plus whatcha think about my setup?
Im pullimg my 305 and trans to clean up the engine bay and Im doing a few mods while shes out... right now I have stock 305tpi 143k with a rebuilt 700r4 2200stall and 2.73 drum rearend. Im installing a 3.42 pbr disc rear, ported tpi, rebuilt injectors from rich at cruzin performance 19lb, 6al n coil, rebuilt ,guide cut down, ported and polished 601 heads(replace 081) and a xe258hr12 with 1.6 GMPP roller rockers, headman shortys n ypipe. Finally this is my question... even though tthe tpi is made for the 305 will adding slp runners to this setup raise my powerband over the stock runners... Im falling on my face at about 4300rpms as she sits right now....also does anyone know what the CR will be buy changing from the 58cc 081s to the 53cc 601s using stock gasket? thanks

It's falling on it's face early cause the auto 305 TPI cars have dinky cams. With the new setup it should rev much higher. With my factory ported base, plenum, and runners my 305 peaked in the low 5k rpms IIRC. I shifted around 5500rpms. I had a Comp 210/220 .480/.480 112 cam and untouched AL vette heads, SLP Tri-y headers, exhaust, 3.73 gears, etc. 13.6's at 101mph and 12.8's at 109mph with an 80hp shot.

IN MY OPINION I WOULD STICK WITH THE STOCK RUNNERS IF YOUR STAYING WITH THE 305.-I HAD AN 86 T/A WITH A 305 COMP CAMS TPI CAM I THINK .454 LIFT?--I'M NOT SURE.--PORTED 305 HEADS EDELBROCK HEADERS NO CATS/SLP RUNNERS, PORTED UPPER BASE,1.6 ROLLER TIP ROCKERS.--700R4 WITH A SHIFT KIT.--IT WAS A FUN CAR.--I SOLD THE CAR TO SOMEONE THAT HAD MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS.--BUT I STARTED TO GET THE 3RD GEN BLUES.--SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A 92 T/A 350 TPI .-ADDED THE SLP RUNNERS,HEADERS,EXHAUST, TPIS CHIP AND THIS CAR WILL RUN RINGS AROUND MY OLD 305 CAR.--AND I KNOW 305 CARS CAN BE MADE TO RUN.-BUT THE LOW END TORQUE YOUR GIVING UP IS WHATS NEEDED TO GET THAT BIRD DOWN THE STREET AND TO HAVE A REALLY FUN CAR TO DRIVE.------- YOUR STOCK RUNNERS WILL MAKE THE MOST POWER AND TORQUE WHERE YOU NEED IT ON THE STREET.

Last year I helped swap TPIS runners on to a LB9 5spd car. The next time we were at the track the car did improve but only by a tenth consistantly. I would say stick with the stock runners, the money you would be spending on SLP's could be spent elsewhere. Like some suspension pieces so that lil 5.0L will 60ft hard! Thread Starter

The plan is to run her in some autocross this year but mainly itll be for weekends.
