My first a TPI build
Okay guys here's the deal. I'm want a fairly potent daily driver built with spare parts in the garage. This is what I'm thinking about putting together.
300-350hp would be nice.
roller 350 shortblock
I have a couple stock 350 cranks or I could tear the stock crank out of my 400 and go 383... (if the heads and intake will keep up.)
062 vortec heads (already machined to take up to .600 lift.)
A TPI from a 92 vette. (w harness and ECM)
TH350
What I need to get
Scoggy-Dickens vortec base.
Looking at comp's 268XFI HR-13 cam
and eventually a burnt chip (Anyone have any experience w/Harris performance?)
Some questions I have:
Is going with 1.6 rockers on this intake setup worth it? Should I just stick with the 1.5's I already have? The difference in lift with this cam on the intake is .035" .535 vs .57 and on the Exhaust side is .034" .531 vs .565. This is right around the lift where the vortecs are flowed out anyway.
With this top end I'm leaning to sticking with the 350 crank because I think the stock TPI will run out of breath to soon to feed a 383. I could be wrong though.
The dreaded question. Is this cam worth it? I've seen mixed reviews but most seem to like it as a daily driver. I've never requested a custom grind as others have suggested in the threads I have researched. This is my first FI motor build so cam choice is a lot more critical according to all of the threads i have researched so thats causing me to second guess my choice in the cam.
What are your thoughts?

this guy is good for the prom tune and cheap
build the 350- high compression over 10 to 1
the cam wont matter all that much
get a diggy ign system
you will have a street monster
I had to reduce my rear end back to the 2.77 from 3.56 because I did not need all that power and I wanted some gas millage
compression is the key

Sounds like you recommend sticking with the 350 crank.
I have 10-1 compression right now. I could probably push it a to 10.5 but I still want it to be a pump gas motor. How are the vortec heads on preignition at higher compression?

yes I have to run 91-93 oct. it cost me about 2.50 a fill up. I had to take out a loan
diggy ign- I run a accel 300+ it sparks three times instead of one
I have to give it up to scott, the guy who burned my chip, its right on first time
but I have to agree with 1986Z28OWNER I would like to burn my own chips
scott only charges like $55 if you send him your prom

I'm sticking with the 350 crank and the 10:1. I'll look into burning my own chips and I'm going to go with that cam and the 1.6 lifters.
