Help, code 42
ive been having some problems with this car. just put the motor in and cant get it to start. the only code i get is code 42. ive put a new ignition module, ecm, and tried different coils and it still wont start. could i be getting this code becuase i have the wire unplugged to check the timing? what else could it be? im begining to think the distributor took a dump, but i dont know. id appreciate any advice and help, thanks

check your basics......cranking speed good?? do you have spark??? are you getting fuel??? did you put the distributor in the right position or 180 degrees out??? did you line you cam and crank timing chain marks up correctly??? is the motor grounds good?? Is your base timing too far out to start??? does it crank over smooth and try to start or does it sputter or what is it doing??

its getting fuel, its in time, base time is about 10*, all gounds are hooked up, looked like it was getting a weak spark, pulled the plugs out and they were black. car idles bad, you have to give it gas to keep it running. it revs up but very sluggish like its only running on a few cylinders. smells like it is runnning really rich. a friend suggested i had the wrong spark plugs on it. i didnt think that spark plugs would make a difference, i just out the AC Delcos that oriely's said it took.
