could we get some good flow if we just put one of thoes big k&n cone type filters on the end of the mass air??

You could do that, but you would see better results from just gutting the baffles out of the stock TPI air intake set-up and running a quality set of filters. Reason being the cone filter would just suck up hot engine bay air. I have seen a few guys make "ram-air" set ups out of the stock intakes buy building extensions that go where the fog lights are.

yea mine is already done that way it has duct running to where the fog lights are to get the ram air effect so i fuess ill just stick with that
