fuel tank float

Hi ya folks,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if the float for the fuel gauge could get stuck in the plastic baffle in the bottom of the tank?... I just changed my pump and put the sending unit back in. It's was hard to see in there when I was tucking it all back in but I guess I'm hoping that everything went fine. I would hope that the float could go in the baffle when the tank is low on fuel to keep an accurate reading and then of course come out as you fill it up....???...

Re: fuel tank float

Well I don't know what to think, I put 5 gal. from a gas can in and it's only reading 1/8th full.... I'd hate to fill it up and not have a clue at how full I was. This year only has a few months left for driving up here so I may just try it and find out. Then if there is a problem... well I guess I'll be pulling it in the winter. But yes I will let you know what my results are.
I guess a question for someone is can the float go in the baffle or is it supposed to stay outside of it.
Chuck

Re: fuel tank float

my tank will read full for a very long time and then goes down. why not pour it up to the top and see what it reads. you can always drain it out or use the fuel pump to push it out.

i ride for a very long time on 1/4 tank.
