Engine covered in Gas...

So I was out working on the GTA and I opened up the fuel pressure regulator to tinker. I had read a few threads where guys put a quarter in the top of their FPR to increase pressure a bit. I get the idea, cool. So After everything is all back together I go to start up the engine. Ran smooth, better then before. So after a minute I shut her off. Oh, whats that smell? GAS!! Everywhere under the hood and more on the driveway under it. What did I do?!!!

Easiest way to find a leak is to look where its coming from. You can just prime the rails by turning the key on, the leak should be quite obvious at that point.

If I had to guess, the housing from the FPR is not seated properly to the FPR cap.

when I was putting the FPR back on , I noticed that it seemed like I had to push down pretty hard to get it on. I thought the last time I had it of it just sat down quite easily.

Re: Engine covered in Gas...

You now have a quarter in there putting more pressure on the spring. It's gonna be harder to seat the cap.

Ok, Should I replace the diaphragm while I am at it or is the stock one sufficient? Where would I get one if I need to?

They're all the same. You can get one at any auto parts store.

Check the cap first, its fairly easy to not get them seated right to the housing.

Re: Engine covered in Gas...

Thanks for the help!! I just took off the cap and the diapragm had folded over on one side. So, if it helps anyone else out....To hold everything in place, I put all the little bolts thru the cap and then the diaphragm. I then carefully held it over the base and started each screw a little. Then tightned them and turned the key to prime the fuel pump to check for leaks BEFORE putting the plenum and everything else back together. Thanks again for the help!!!
