TPI Linkage help

Alright guys i need a little help. I am putting a Tpi unit in a 1988 Chevy TBI Truck and need a little asistance on the linkage. IF any of you have put a tpi in a chevy truck i would appriciate any help you can give me. The thing i need help on is will a Throttle cable for a TPI Camaro work in my truck. I cant find anything on-line anywere on what cable people are using. Also I cant find any TPI camaros around me in the junk yards and dont know anyone with one to measure the cable to find out if it is long enough or if the end for the pedal is the same. So if anyone out there knows the length of the cable or has done this conversion in the past please let me know. I dont really want to buy one unless i know for sure it will work. Also i would like to say this is about the best and most helpful forum for anything related to chevy. As a matter of fact i joined just because you guys know your stuff and is willing to help. Thanks again for any help you can give me

Re: TPI Linkage help

You might actually be able to just re-use the truck's original throttle cable. I have a 95 TBI chevy truck and if I remember correctly, the cable clips into the bracket the same way, it's just a square hole. Also, like TPI, i'm pretty sure it connects to the throttle lever with the same type of clip on the end. So, I think you should be able to just unclip the cable from the TBI bracket, clip it into the TPI bracket, and connect it right to the TB.

Re: TPI Linkage help

ya i just dont know if it will be long enough. it doesnt look like i have enough slack to reach the throttle body on the tpi. i do know from what i have read that if you switch from tbi to tpi on a camaro it requires a different throttle cable, trans cable and cruise cable.

Re: TPI Linkage help

i can't honestly tell you the exact answer you are looking for, but i can tell you a few things i know that are camaro specific. i have two camaros, a 90 that HAD a 305 tbi, and an 89 with a 350 tpi. i am working on swapping an LT1 from a 96 vette into the 90, and the TBI throttle cable is WAY to short. i honestly haven't measured yet to see for sure, but i believe that the TPI will need a 24 inch cable... BUT, i don't recall the position in the firewall where the throttle cable goes through on my old 91 pickup i had, but my guess is that the truck would require a longer cable than a camaro. my best answer would be to go to summit or who ever you prefer and look into the Lokar 36 inch throttle cable (part number TC-1000TP36), i'd doubt it is too short, and if it is too long, you can cut down the cable housing to the length you need (you can download install instructions for that cable on summits site). the instructions tell you exactly how to trim it down if you need to. someone else may be able to verify this, but i am thinking that when talking about the length of the throttle cable, it is refering to the housing length, not the actual cable that runs through. as i said, the instructions will tell you how to set it up, trim the housing, cut the cable to length, etc. hope this helps and good luck on your project.
