Code 36 Troubleshooting

How can I find a diagram (or something like a flow chart) that would show me how to troubleshoot the Code 36 problem. I have an '88 Formula, 305 TPI. I know it has to do with the burn-off circuit, but I can't seem to find any manuals that tell me how to troubleshoot it without randomly starting to replace relays.

this may be of help. I had code 36 a while ago and it turns out my MAF was broken.

Re: Code 36 Troubleshooting

Thanks, but we already know what the code means. We are looking for a troubleshooting diagram (such as a GM shop service manual) to try to determine what needs to be replaced.

Re: Code 36 Troubleshooting

I hope this is legible. I found it on the internet somewhere some time back. It should give you some idea as to where all the wires go. I can't help much more than that. I also have a code 36, haven't had a chance to troubleshoot.

That's strange, It must loose some image quality through photobucket or Thirdgen.org. I can e-mail it to you if you pm me with your e-mail address.

Re: Code 36 Troubleshooting

Just as an FYI... I had originally used Napa AR279 relays for both the MAF power and MAF burnoff since they were missing from my harness when I got it. From what I'm reading on here, an aftermarket relay is the most common cause of the code 36. So last night I replaced the MAF power relay with the 14089936 GM relay (this is the round style relay) and so far my code 36 has not come back. Only time will tell, but if that doesn't fix it, I will replace the burnoff relay with the 14089936 GM relay too.
