naw... there would be some sign... that connector just isn't on an 88... it's also not on a 86... I've found it on an 87 though... you'd think that there would be some standard from year to year... especially in something major like the fuel injectors.

Re: problem getting started
That tiny little connector was the answer to the injector problem, the tan and white wire that was also on it was how power gets to the cooling fans. A jumper from the wiring harness through the firewall (no connection for C100) was what was needed to get the fuel pump to work. Then the power from the fuse box that goes into the instrument panel is somehow supposed to get to the alternator so I had to jumper that from the fuse box, and then the other brown wire on the alternator that is supposed to get power from the cooling fan unit wasn't and had to jumper that.
Now the car runs, it can be driven and sometimes it runs really good, but these are short bursts, the balance of the time it's running pretty rough. It back fires through both the exhaust, and the TPI unit.
I think it might be the MAFS but I'm really a novice at TPI.
Here are the ECM codes it's putting out right now.
24
33
42

These relate to vacumn and voltage... I had the battery disconnected today.
Thoughts?

Re: problem getting started
Thanks for the input... turned out to be a couple of things...
1) the engine came with an 85 MAFS wrong model for an 87 engine and computer.
2) the car really needed a tune up.
3) the brand new fuel pump was defective.
all is running great now... thanks to all that helped get me this far.

Re: problem getting started
Congrats, man... there's nothing like the satisfaction of having completed a project... except maybe for cruising in it.
I'm glad you were able to get everything straightened out.
