emissions and air removal

alright guys hoping you can help me. has any of you with emissions testing removed the A.I.R from your cars. if so have you had any problems passing the sniffer. i just moved to texas and they have testing and indiana were i came from dont so i dont have A.I.R. havent tried yet cause dont wanna spend the money just for them to tell me it dont pass. i dont think ill have any problems with the visual cause it dont look like it ever had it (no holes in headers, no wires visable and a A.I.R delete pulley) and its not actually in a camaro but it is TPI and i just want to make sure the engine is efficiant enough to pass by itself. any help would be appricaiated

with the a.i.r. bits removed, corvette temp sensor, 185 thermostat, and high-flow cat I used to pass legit in NY. I just moved to NJ and passed here as well.

Re: emissions and air removal

Passing the test without it will depend on more than just the sniffer results. Some states do a full visual inspection as well and would fail it for not having the AIR pump even if it does pass the sniffer. Hopefully someone from Texas will chime in with the requirements.

You might also want to post the question in the regional forum.

True what Beater says - We have (and I passed) visual in both places - probably more an indictment of the process or people doing the testing. No question - my biggest fear is always the visual - because if they know what to look for - I'm done. The sticker is affixed so I won't have to think about it for 2 years.

Re: emissions and air removal

It all depends on how good all your sensors are. If all your sensors are working within specs, good compression, no vac leaks, and mainly if the engine has been cared for like anyones new born baby, then you should be good. If you still have the cat. converter in, run the Camaro on the highway to get it working at operating temperature, then hit the brown noser sniffer, but dont let the inspectors turn off the Camaro because the temp will drop in the cat and will give out a bad reading. Good luck.

Yes you can get good enough numbers to pass (i have) BUT......

Visually, you should fail. *Should* is the key word. Whether or not the inspector is paying attention is another matter. Headers without the A.I.R. tubes are a quick give-away, that the smog system has been messed with.

So you could get great #s, yet be failed because something is missing during the visual portion.

What county are you moving to? Not every county in Texas has emissions testing.

My wife tried to fight it, while she was the Supervisor for the DPS department that controlled the stations, but she couldn't really do anything but point out system flaws & hope that those in charge would agree & fight.
