timing question prob stupid
i need to time my camaro and i dont kno what the timing is or how to do it its a 87 with a 350 in it i never done it before and i got a new motor and need to time it any help would be thankfull

First you may need to clean the timing tang so you can see the marks. do this while the engine is cold. then start the motor and let it warm up.
Turn off the motor, disconnect the est bypass (brown wire with white stripe. comes out of the loom where the ac box is).
Attach your timing light to the no1 plug wire, loosen the dist enough that you can turn it by hand with a sleight resistance, you don't want it turning by itself.
Start the motor and turn the dist until the mark on the balancer lines up with 6 degrees before zero on the tang.
Tighten the dist, reconnect the plug and your done. it will set a code 42 in the ecm, disc the battery for a few minutes to clear the code.
