406 build
406 build
Hi Guys... My first time here. Great site I just hope I can get some questions answered. I got a 86 chevy truck 4x4 I also have a 406 engine not a hot rod and I also have a TPI system out of a firebird. Was wondering if I could use this System on this engine? All I'm doing with this truck is haul 4-wheelers and snowmobiles up the mountain. Stick to the carburetor or use the TPI System I got? What should I use for a cam? If swapping the carb? I want to get some good mileage and better cold starts. I will be running 3:73 gears with a T400. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

I imagine if you could get the tpi setup to work it would save you a little gas going up the mountain and it wouldnt effect the way it runs as much as you increase in elevation on your way up as the air leans out

Something like a Comp Cams 270'ish with the TPI would make a real nice tow motor. Probably only 325 or so HP @ 4K but around 500 ft/lbs or better and it would start at like 1400 RPM. That's why a lot of Jeep guys do the TPI for rock crawling and what not. LOTSA' low end grunt when set up correctly. And, it'll definitely beat the carb for easy starts and better mileage.
