1988 iroc smog pump delete, etc.

what do u guys think about a smog pump delete, a/c delete, and a EGR block off plate on a 1988 iroc? Has anyone done this and how did it work out for you?

if u can get away with running with out smog do it. u dont need ur a/c so u can get rid of that. on ur egr valve i think u need to get rid of that in the computer first or ur car wont run good. but i could be wrong.

I did a smog delete and really aw no difference. Order a 1LE pulley and smog delete pulley for about $80. I'd leave the egr because your fuel economy will suffer without it, but it's your choice.

his thread has pretty much everything covered for find the sometimes elusive pulleys.

You live in California. We have to pass emissions tests here. Its totally illegal to remove or disable any emissions device on a street driven vehicle in all 50 states, even if your state doesnt do emissions testing.

My car makes this much power and passes the emissions test. Why bother being illegal?

Re: 1988 iroc smog pump delete, etc.

We don't have emmission testing in Alabama. I did the smog pump delete when my smog pump locked up. Don't look for power gains because I don't really think the pump is a much of loss. The engine compartment is a lot cleaner without it it though.
I would say keep the AC. If you sell the car and you removed the AC it will lower the value of your car a few hundred dollars. you can take all that stuff off, and put aluminum heads on and see a nice weight difference however. It if you aren't going road racing or auto X ing it isn't going to make a lot of difference. If you are already in the low 12's or something like that, it might be a more appropriate change. I just don't think weight reduction on a low 14 second/high 13 second street car warrants this.
Good Luck.
