What should the air temperature be according to the MAT sensor? I'm wondering if my air intake is too close to the engine causing warmer air to enter. The temperature today was in the mid 50's and the air temp was in the 90's even after driving at 60mph for a good half hour, although it did slowly creep down from about 100 to 91 or so last I checked but it took the 20-30 minutes to do so.

 

What sensor do you have? One measures the actual air temp the other is going to measure the manifold temp... the actual temperature of the aluminum.

 

Hmm, stock sensor for a MAF setup. I would assume it's measuring air temp, hence the name.

 

Doesnt really answer the question. If you have the sensor that was originally installed by GM, its solid brass and identical to the CTS (coolant temp sensor). Not really what you want. The V6 cars used a sensor that has an open plastic cage and you will get the actual air temp with that rather than the solid brass one that mostly reads the metal temp.

 

Sorry, I guess by stating it was the stock sensor for a MAF setup that would explain what kind of sensor . So that would be the sensor that isn't ideal, but it's what I have and will be working with for at least the foreseeable future.

Looking to see what normal readings are, given the stock sensor. Ambient temp, or slightly higher/much higher than that?

 

Those readings are fine. Usually where I am, about 110 or so is normal. At 90-100 I would not worry about it.

 

Ok, thanks....today was a pretty cool day out but my K&N filter isn't in an ideal spot, closer to the engine than is ideal so I was wondering how much warmer the air might be. Still plan to move it out more even if the temp is ok.
