Re: l98 wont start! help!
sounds like a short somewhere, unless somethings been modified, the fans should not come on until the temp reaches the fan on set point.

on the front of the intake manifold just under the alternator there are 2 plugs, one is the cold start injector switch the other is the coolant temp sensor, it has a smallish plug with a yellow and a black wire on it.

Re: l98 wont start! help!
Do you have any codes from the ecm becaus it almost sounds like you engine is in safe mode this is normal if your coolant temp sensor is BAD your looking for either a code 14 or 15 becaus that would cause your fan not fans to come on your looking for one fan to spin not both if both than you have something very weird going on if its both fans than that means your coolant temp sensor and fan switch are both bad or some weird type of short (make shure your fuel pump sounds healthy too it should sound for 2-4 seconds if its only for a brief moment it may be bad this may be half the problem) but this more sound like either a sensor problem or ecm if you are not getting fuel press and changing the fuel pump gets it running thats great but i think you still have some underlying condition with ecm/sensors

Re: l98 wont start! help!
Ok so I've been having another problem. When I drive my car for couple of minutes the rpms start to drop and car starts to choke and when I stop or do a turn the car turns off. I picked up my car from the electrician and he said that maybe is the diverter box that it stays open and that's why maybe it chokes but he's not sure. He said to check with a mechanic. I wanted to see if any of you guys know anything about this.

I stand with a bad ecm at this point to many problems and no codes or engine light so i think you are most likely looking at a bad ecm (just a thought but why not plug all the sensor holes and change to a nice holey 4bbl just a thought but if you go around fixing and fixing it may just be more cost effective to go to a nice simple mechanical carburetor)

Check the fuse by the battery, on the radiator support, it's on a red wire that comes off the pos battery cable. Also check the wire itself for shorts or corrosion, that wire is the main 12v supply for the ecm, maf, fans, fuel pump, and a few others. A bad one will cause all kinds of problems.

Re: l98 wont start! help!
cost all depends on what type of carb you pick but you need to have a new intake manifold for the carb you pick, find and remove all sensors (do not remove coolant temp fan switch) and plug the holes in the block, remove the main harness, the air pump should work fine without the ecm just unplug the sensors, you will also need to find a way to get both your fans to kick in at the same time with the stock temp switch (it will be a pain and will cost more than an ecm but once its done you will proberly never have a problem ever again if you are willing to shell out big bucks this is a permanent fix that will work out great) I personaly like the carb idea but it may simply esayer to change all your sensors and ecm when i made that other post i forgot how much crap you realy need to do to change over to a carb
Re: l98 wont start! help!
i would stick with what you got as far as the fuel injection and my car did the same thing it was the coolant temp sensor and it stalling sounds like a vacuume leak also i would check the EGR as far as the fuel proplem spray some carb cleaner down the intake if it fires its a fuel problem if not its a fire problem make sure both plugs are in on the distributor i accidentally hit mine the other day never thought about it then when i could not get the car to fire i started from the bottom and found one unpluged not saying any of this is the problem with your car but my car did the same thing and this is what i did hope it helps

Re: l98 wont start! help!
there is a red or maybe it's orange wire coming off the positive battery cable, it should have a fuse holder on it, on both my 89 and 86 it was hidden under the radiator support near the top on the driver side, follow the red wire and you should find it.

Re: l98 wont start! help!
I was thninking of just selling my car instead of fixing it(I'm still not sure about this). Is a 87 trans am with the 350tpi with the 700transmission and stock rear end. The engine was rebuild it has like around 2k since rebuild I have receipt. Has brand new brakes. Headlight motors don't work but has rebuild ones still haven't installed them. I replaced the passenger headlight assembly. It has the original crosslace rims. You'll new tires, that's for sure. The car is black. Has couple of chips not noticeable. Paint is 7/10. Interior is 7/10 needs the headliner dash boars and driver seat has rip on the top left. Oh and you'll need a new wrap around rear wing, it has two cracks. Everything is good. Just that problem that I have that sometimes it doesn't turn on and turns off. One more thnig you'll need transmission mount

Do you hear the fuel pump kicking on with key turned? If its a ecm is needed, there only 59.99. Are computers are CHEAP, but it sounded like a electrical problem.

Re: l98 wont start! help!
Is the check engine light on when the car runs? this is probably a computer problem get one from the junkyard and try it out, swapping to a carb is wayyyy too much work and a waste of time and money, especially if you can fix it by changing the computer (it takes 10 minutes)
