Re: timing help i think i messed up
So did you actually use a timing light or just guessimate where you put the distributor?
Is this a TPI or carb? I see it's in the TPI forum but always best to ask.
If it's carb it sounds like it may be accelerator pump issues. I had my new motor act about the same and it turned out the linkage on the pump arm was bottoming out.
I say get a timing light then mark the balancer with white chalk, white cranyon, or white out (I normally use white out cause it stays the longest). Then just follow the directions on the timing light.
For mine I unplug the vac advance line going to the distributor and plug the hole on the carb/intake so theres not a vacuum leak. Spin the Timing Light advance dial where ever I want it and shoot the timing (aim at the pointer and the balancer to see where the white line shows) to see where it's at. If it's off I loosen the distributor clamp and turn the distributor slowly until the line is where I want it (at the pointer).
Each gun is different some of the cheaper ones don't have adjustments you have to mark it on the balancer (if you have a degreed balancer) or use the pointer tab as degrees.
