Fuel Injector Issue/Question

Hi All,

Long story short, I'm not sure if I have 22 or 24lb injectors... I'd appreciate some advice please.

With my fuel pressure set at 42-45 PSI WOT, my results.
- (Open Loop) rich cold start, fuel smells pretty strong runs like it’s got a aggressive CAM in it.
- (Closed loop) my lower RPM feels great and runs pretty good
- (Closed loop) at WOT its ok not to bad feels like it could run better

With my fuel pressure set at 36-39 PSI WOT, my results.
- (Open Loop) Cold start is pretty much normal start up like a champ.
- (Closed loop) my lower RPM feels good not as aggressive as with the PSI higher but feels really good.
- (Closed loop) at WOT runs really great.

I have a green ring around the injectors no brand name I can see just a part number…
In my BIN the Fuel Injector size is programmed for 22lb injectors.

Questions
- Should I set my PSI to 42-45 PSI and adjust my Bin for 24lb injectors, and if so the only setting are “Single Fire FI Size @ 40psig” and Double Fire FI Size @ 40psig are the settings I need to Adjust in my Bin File correct???

- Should I leave it alone the way it’s running and not worry about it?

I really can’t tell what size I have and I rather not run it to lean, should I data log it and monitor my short term BLM. What’s the best thing I can do at this point? BTW it's a 88 Vette with ARAP BIN 165 (9th injecter delete)

Thanks!

Re: Fuel Injector Issue/Question

Cool I'll give you the numbers tonight. I appreshate you going out of your way to help me. Would it be possible to give me the brand name too?

If I do happen to have 24lb, are “Single Fire FI Size @ 40psig” and Double Fire FI Size @ 40psig is that the only two setting I need to set in my BIN? I'd prefer it set my injectors at 24lb and adjust my fuel pressure back to normal PSI.

Those injectors were manufactured by Lucas and were original equipment parts in 1988. They were factory rated at 22 lb/hr.

Re: Fuel Injector Issue/Question

Thanks again for all the help! I tested and thinking that I had 24lb injectors this what i did. Before I saw this post...

Modified my BIN file for 24lb
Adjusted my Fuel Pressure to 45PSI at WOT.
drove it, and it runs like a champ. Feels like an animal at WOT and runs smooth everywhere else.

After reading your post and now knowing I have 22lb injectors. Is the 36 PSI at WOT? If so then that might make sense as to why I've been running rich (BTW 1988 vette). I always thought that 1988 TPI motors liked 44-47 PSI WOT, and 1985-87 like 36 PSI@ WOT?

I really thought had 24lb, this kinda sucks and makes me think something else is going on. ....I need to run some data logs once it's warmer. If you can answer that quesition about 36 @ WOT or Idle I'll have a good idea on my direction.

FYI ran all the pressure tests and it holds fine, and OHM tests =, perhaps I mght have a crappy FP gauge too? I'll double check that and datalog before digging in more. I just hate to run lean and burner up so soon. I can't wait till i do a LSx conversion, I'm over TPIs and ready for some new technolgy : )

What do you mean by closed and open loop? I may be having too high of fuel pressure that is causing it to run rich smell like gas and runs choppy
